Re: TWEED SPRING SALMON CONSERVATION – TOTAL CATCH AND RELEASE
by R Tweed
Some Tweed spring fish are taken by upstream beats but the RTC's return figures indicate that most are not and that the great majority are returned as indeed they must be if they are unseasonal; it’s not a precise definition but coupled with the location of spring run fish in the summer, not many are in fact killed. Re. the nets, the RTC pays the in-river nets not to take salmon until June 1st and has agreed in principle with the biggest netsman not take salmon in June this year in return for compensation. As well as the nets fishing rights already purchased, the RTC is currently concluding the purchase of Canny net fishery so that fishery will not operate again.
