ETTRICK COUNTER (see attachment): With the very dry weather, there has been little movement and this year's count to the end of June has been the lowest on record - 41, the previous low being in 2001 when the count to the end of June was 46. It is only in 2001 and 2010 that there has not been a count of over 100 in at least one of the months of April, May and June.
The recent little water has had some effect - 14 fish have gone through in the last 24 hrs.
GALA COUNTER: Nothing yet, but nothing is expected till later in the season.
WHITEADDER: The new counter, for the cauld at Chirnside, has arrived and the works on the cauld to hold it are about to start. This will not give a total count, as fish can get over the face of the cauld in suitable water, but it will give a minimum count and start a new chapter in terms of the information available about the fish of the Whiteadder. It will also show how the various releases from the reservoir affect - or don't - the movement of fish.
