Since 1998, the In-River net fisheries on Tweed have been paid by the River Tweed Commission not to take Salmon until June 1st, as part of the Tweed Spring Salmon Conservation Measures. There are two important changes to these in 2010:-
1. The Canny Net Fishery has agreed not to fish and to allow The Tweed Foundation a long-term lease of its netting rights thus effectively making it inoperative. The rod fishery will continue at Canny.
2. Paxton and Gardo Net Fisheries have agreed to extend the Spring Salmon Conservation Measures for June and not to take Salmon until July 1st. They will continue to take Sea-trout but will return all Salmon that they catch.
This means that there will be no salmon taken by the Tweed in-river nets until July 1st.
