Monday 20th July: Working at home on the laptop, to get uninterupted time to get on with the new edition of the Management Plan, the present edition of which runs out at the end of the year. Have to adapt the Sea-trout section to accomodate all the work due under the Living North Sea programme.
Tuesday 21st July: Was supposed to be out electric-fishing on the Till today, but the water still far too high. More work on the management plan instead, and on doing a review paper on Spring Salmon for the RTC committee meeting at the end of the month. Reports of the Bowmont and the Breamish cutting out of their channels again and re-opening the ones they started in the floods last Autumn.
Wednesday 22nd July: Another day in the office while it rains outside. Working on a review paper on Spring Salmon for the next RTC committee. Out at lunchtime with James to look at the repaired Ettrick cauld under its first (small) spate. A couple of fish showing. The big spates will be test of it. Preparations for the Kelso show in the afternoon.
Thursday 23rd July: Was supposed to be repairing traps today, but water now too high. Working on catch records and preparations for the Kelso show instead.
Friday 24th July: An early start to electric-fish some fish for the aquarium on our stand at the Kelso show. Usually, we just get these from the river at Kelso, but its too high at present, so have to get up extra early and go down to the Leader beforehand. Get them safely transported to the showground and get the display going. Our usual quiz for kids, with questions that can be answered from the displays and the chance to make a badge showing their favourite Tweed fish or "minibeast". James has a special badge, with a picture of me as his favourite Tweed biologist. Slow as always on the Friday morning, a bit busier in the afternoon, but not rushed off our feet.
Saturday 25th July: Somewhat busier at the Kelso Show, but definitely quieter than last year. No long queques for the casting pond. Get round the show a bit and stock up on various examples of good, local, foods. The usual hour to pack up but get the fish back into the Leader without mishap.
