The River Tweed Commission (RTC) has just published a new leaflet entitled ‘Tweed Spring Salmon’ which details the new Conservation Measures for the 2010 season onwards.
The Spring Salmon Conservation Measures have been running on Tweed for a decade, with the majority of anglers content to return most of their fish to help Tweed’s fragrile Spring stocks. Despite comment from some quarters, returning these Springers, unharmed, to the water makes a significant contribution to the River’s spawning stock.
Following the first rather poor Spring run this season that Tweed has experienced in a lot of years, the RTC decided to introduce a few additional Measures that fisheries on the River should implement to help conserve our Springers. In particular, it makes provision for tightening up the Catch & Release policy in the Spring, if necessary, should early indications next Spring show that we are in the grips of another poor year.

Hard copies of the leaflet will also shortly be available from fishing huts and tackle shops.
