Saturday, 6th December 2008 will see the fourth annual Jedforest Rotary Club Charity Grayling Fishing Competition. This charity event was started by the Rotary Club of Jedburgh to raise money for the families of a fishing village devastated in the Tsunami in 2004. It has now become an annual event to raise funds for similar good causes. The competition is catch and release and fished on the River Teviot between Jedburgh and Hawick. All of the competition catch records are donated to the Tweed Trout & Grayling Initiative being run by the Federation of Border Angling Associations and The Tweed Foundation. These catch records, and others like them, allow the Initiative to monitor the Grayling population(s) from around the Tweed system. In particular, detailed fish length data is provided in this type of competition which is, along with the catch rates recorded, of considerable use in fisheries management.
