In contrast to the Tweed Foundation's fish counter on the Ettrick Water, which counts fish in most months (primarily because this is where most Spring Salmon originate), the Foundation's Gala Water fish counter has only counted two fish this season, both of which have been classified as Trout. The fish that passed through on 8th June was certainly a Brown Trout as can be seen below, although it can be difficult to differentiate them from Sea Trout when the water is more coloured. There have been no major spates on the Gala Water this season, so the Foundation is still waiting to see whether there is a run of Trout (particularly Sea Trout) or Salmon that pass through this counter in the Spring / Summer period when there is a rise in water level.
