Reports on the summer electro-fishing by the Tweed Foundation which this year focussed on the Leader and Gala Waters and the Upper Tweed have been compiled.

Upper Tweed sites, for example, showed the highest density results for Salmon indicating that sufficient numbers of adults are spawning in these areas and that they have good nursery habitat. Poor nursery habitat found on the Biggar and Lyne Waters was responsible for lower numbers of fish with slow flows and large amounts of sediment making the potential spawning areas less attractive to fish. Trout results in the Upper Tweed were also of the best class with the Eddleston and Leithen Waters also having good juvenile populations; these are all important nursery areas.
