The Tweed Foundation has started a trapping programme to ascertain the extend of the Signal Crayfish population in the Till following the discovery of a crayfish in the Millfield area in August.

It is hoped that the captured specimen, a mature male, was a 'one-off' but, to ensure that that is so, 20 traps have been set in a 1.5km stretch of the river upstream and downstream of the point of capture. The traps are baited and will be checked three times a week over the next month.

If you see or find a crayfish anywhere in the catchment please contact the Tweed Foundation (01896 848271) immediately who will be able to positively identify the crayfish as a Signal and log the details of your discovery.

Please note that it is illegal for anyone to intentionally trap, or keep, crayfish without a licence.
