As part of the Tweed Foundation's on-going Grayling exploitation study, a Grayling tagging day took place on Saturday 16th December 2006 on the Earlston Angling Association’s stretch of the Leader Water. The tagging was assisted by several local Grayling anglers who used their fishing expertise to provide Grayling for the Foundation to tag.

In total, 18 Grayling were caught, tagged and released in four different areas of the Leader Water. The fish were tagged using individually numbered green Carlin Tags (shown in one of the attached photos). In addition to tagging, information on the length, sex and place of capture was recorded for each Grayling. The lengths of the three biggest Grayling caught during the tagging suggested that they would have been close to, or possibly over in the case of the largest Grayling, three pounds in weight. At the time of writing, two of the Grayling which were tagged have been re-captured by Earlston Angling Association anglers.

The Tweed Foundation is most grateful to the volunteers who helped with the tagging programme.

If you catch a tagged Grayling in any part of the Tweed catchment please report the number of the tag to the Foundation as shown below (the Grayling can be released with the tag still in it):-
