The Exploitation Study which caught, tagged and returned 56 fish from Paxton netting station over three days in September has had its first recaptures. The Study, which aims to supply the Tweed Foundation with enough information over a three year period to estimate the size of the fish stocks running Tweed, has been undergoing a change to enable a larger sample of fish to be caught and tagged. From early next year a method other than the net and coble employed to date will be in operation.
However, for the time being, three recaptures from this year's tagged sample have already been caught and reported to the Foundation, as follows:
Tagged on 18th September, recapture at Cornhill on 3rd November
Tagged on 19th September, recapture at Kalemouth on 30th October
Tagged on 20th September, recapture at Sprouston on 4th October
Any angler catching a tagged fish should please phone in the details to the Foundation as soon as possible.
